Sailing Vessel Keyo

Annapolis, Maryland

 Vessel Rules:

THE LAW: There is only room for one Captain, and the Captain's word is law. Please follow any directions or orders given by the Captain, for your safety and the safety of others on board. However, we will not enter into international waters at any time, so the Captain cannot perform marriage ceremonies. Please don't ask.

ILLEGAL DRUGS: No Illegal Drugs or drug paraphernalia are permitted onboard at any time. Should any be discovered, they will be immediately confiscated and authorities notified. You will be asked to leave the vessel at the nearest port, and not invited back (when you get out of jail).

SMOKING: Keyo is a smoke-free vessel. Smoking anywhere on the boat is prohibited at all times.

PRESCRIPTION MEDICATIONS:  If you take, or might need, prescription medications, please bring an adequate supply with you in the prescription bottle. If the medication is of a critical nature please notify the crew of the location of your medicine as well as administration instructions should you become incapacitated for any reason.

WEAPONS: Generally, no weapons are allowed onboard. Our law-enforcement guests may carry their service weapons, provided that the crew is notified in advance and the weapon is logged. The crew must declare all weapons to any boarding team should we encounter one.

LIFE JACKETS: Life jackets are provided. You will be briefed on the location of life jackets before we depart the slip. If you are not a strong swimmer, you are encouraged to wear one while on deck when the boat is underway. You may certainly wear it at all times if you are more comfortable that way. Safety is never frowned upon onboard.

ON DECK SAFETY: No running on-deck. Always have one hand available for you and one on the boat at all times. Ask for a tour of the vessel: Know where your escape hatches are and where fire extinguishers are located.

BOAT SYSTEMS: Do not turn on or off any of the ship's systems unless directed by the Captain.

MAN OVERBOARD:  In the unlikely event that someone goes over the side, immediately deploy the horseshoe floatation device on the aft lifeline. There is a large strobe attached to the horseshoe which must be pulled from its mount. Maintain visual contact with the overboard person at all times, and alert the rest of the crew.

FIRST AID:  There are two first-aid kits and a CPR mask located in the locker to the port (left) side of the doorway to the salon.

BOAT HEADS: Toilets will only accept human waste and toilet tissue which is provided. Other than the toilet tissue, NOTHING is to be put into the toilet unless you have eaten it first (This includes cotton balls, baby wipes, Kleenex, and feminine hygiene products). Anything other than approved items WILL cause the system to shut down. It will be a long, slow, unpleasant process as the Captain directs you in dismantling the head and removing the offending objects. The sense of accomplishment in succeeding in this task may be overshadowed by the process itself.

TANKED-WATER USAGE: All water on board Keyo is filtered while tanks are filled. Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water. The water in the small tap in the galley is double filtered for drinking water purity. Use that for drinking and cooking.

GALLEY:  Ensure the refrigerator top is fully closed after use. Do not use the toaster, microwave, or oven unless the generator is running.

TRASH DISPOSAL: Government Authorities have strict rules about trash disposal and dumping items overboard. Trash disposal is governed by the MARPOL Treaty, which requires vessels to have a written trash-management plan. Keyo’s Trash management plan is to place all trash in waste baskets or trash bags onboard and dispose of the waste at an on-shore location at the next port-of-call. DO NOT throw anything overboard, to include food items.

TRAMPOLINE:  The trampoline can safely hold the whole crew. However, even though it is called a trampoline, DO NOT jump on it and try to bounce. It is not intended for that use, and you will stretch or tear the material. Relax and enjoy.

THINGS TO BRING:

FOOD: Keyo will have wine, soda, and pure water to drink. Please bring something to share for the food table. Chips and dips will be provided, so something else would be good. We will only be out 3 - 4 hours, so major food is not required.

CLOTHES: But I have nothing to wear... Perfect!!! Although wearing nothing might be a little much. On the water, the sun is very bright and that "all over sunburn" would prove to be painful. Tee shirts & shorts are the clothing you should bring. It can be cool at night, so you may want to bring a jacket & a pair of light slacks if we will be out after dark. If it says, “Dry Clean Only” it is probably too fancy.

SHOES: Keyo’s rules require that you wear shoes at all times while on-deck. Shoes need to be non-marring deck-type shoes. The old style “flip-flops” just aren’t tough enough or stable enough for safe movement while underway.

SUNSCREEN: Bring plenty of sunscreen- please bring PABA-free sunscreen and no oils as they stain the deck and cushions. For added protection we recommend white tee shirts for cover-ups on deck & wide brimmed hats (with retainers so they do not go overboard).

THINGS TO LEAVE AT HOME:

SUNTAN OIL, SPRAY SUNSCREEN, OR SUNSCREEN CONTAINING PABA: These stain the decks and make them slippery.

HARD SOLED SHOES & HIGH HEELS: You don't need them and they mess up the decks.

ALL OF YOUR "ELECTRONIC LEASHES": This Vessel's captain and crew subscribe to the theory that cell phones and other communications media can be distracting to those aboard who are trying to relax and enjoy the time on the water. Please keep your cell phone in silent mode and limit usage to emergencies only.
